Act Now for SL Funding: March 17-19

Dear Service-Learning Colleague:

ACT NOW: March 17-19, 2010: Reach Out to the U.S. House of Representatives to Support Funding for Learn and Serve America

Members of the U.S. House of Representatives must hear from service-learning advocates NOW. Many Representatives will submit their priorities for the Fiscal Year 2011 budget by Friday, March 19. We have three days to make an impact!

CALL CONGRESS. Call to urge your Representative to fully fund the President’s budget request for the Corporation for National and Community Service—and to provide an additional $10 million to fund Learn and Serve America for a total of $50 million. Use these talking points. After you make your calls, urge at least 5 other people to do the same.

CLICK AND SEND AN ELECTRONIC MESSAGE. Take two minutes to send a personal message to members of the U.S. House of Representatives. It’s fast, and it’s easy. Copy and paste the talking points below and visit www.house.gov to email your Representative today. But don’t stop there. Ask your colleagues, parents, teachers, youth, friends, local supporters, and funders to send a message too. Spread the word about funding support for service-learning with a quick click.

Use Service-Learning United's Take Action Instructions and Message Points to call or email Congress.

There are several members of the U.S. House of Representatives who have either expressed interest in or supported service-learning or Learn and Serve America in the past. In addition to reaching out to your own Representative, I urge you to also call or email the Representatives below. Let them know we appreciate their leadership and commitment to supporting young people engaged in hands-on learning and civic action.

Charles Boustany (LA-7th)
Allen Boyd (FL-2nd)
Susan Davis (CA-53rd)
Rosa DeLauro (CT-3rd) Note: E-messages from constituents only
Phil Hare (IL-17th)
Mike Honda
(CA-15th)
Patrick Kennedy (RI-1st)

Jim Moran (VA-8th) Note: E-messages from constituents only
Todd Platts

Once you contact your Representative, email us at nslp@aed.org to let us know who you contacted and when.

I know you are extremely busy and this message comes with short notice. But, this is a critical stage of the funding process and we have three days to make a difference. Your voice matters. Speak. Act. Now.
